Owner Spotlight: Gaurav Shanker
After spending about years working in India's top law firm, I took the plunge to start my own law firm and founded Business Law Chamber (BLC) in 2012. The vision was to fill the gap left by tier-1 law firms and smaller law firms, which lacked the quality that big law firms bring to the table. This sophisticated yet cost-effective legal counsel has become very relevant for start-ups, incubators and business conglomerates doing or intending to do business in India, which the Firm is also focussing on as a target group.
In addition to this target group, BLC advises in a wide range of practice areas including general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, real estate law, intellectual property rights, international and domestic financing, foreign exchange law, technology law and project financing. The growth of BLC to cater to such a wide array of legal issues stems from the involvement of an experienced team, with members having experience of working in top international law firms and business houses. I was fortunate to have colleagues who share the same vision and ethos that helped us collectively shaping BLC to its current avatar. These professional associations date back to my then-friends at La Martiniere College, Lucknow and my law school, the ILS Law College, Pune. I also built meaningful professional relationships during the executive program in Corporate Finance and Strategy that I pursued from the London School of Economics. I am admitted to the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, India and the International Bar Association, London.
Inspite of being a smaller law firm, we work on the systems and cater to expectations that we have gained out of our training at big tier-1 law firms such as being available around the clock. In addition to the professionalism of a top tier law firm, we bring our personal touch to client handling. We have often been complemented by our clients for our ability to empathize and understanding client concerns. I impart knowledge in the simplest form so that the legal advice or services provided are in a meaningful manner. The most enjoyable part of my job is offering sound advice as a part of strategy in complex situations.
I attribute my success to hard work and dedication to clients and am extremely proud of how far we have been able to drive BLC me to date. I got accolades for this, by being nominated as the “Rising Lawyer of India” by Legal Era in 2012. I acknowledge that we have greater challenges and bigger heights to fathom in our growth story. Steve Jobs has had the most impact on my leadership style. His vision, creativity, passion and dedication to his company have helped motivate me to start my own successful business
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. I stay physically fit playing sports tennis and golf.
I care deeply about my country and community. The firm regularly provides pro bono legal assistance in a wide variety of matters including consumer disputes and environmental matters.
If you or someone you know could benefit from our expertise in legal services in New Delhi and Kolkata in India, or Singapore, I invite you to get in touch. Please visit our website at www.businesslawchamber.com.
